Theodore Over the Rainbow Bridge

Well it’s terribly bad news today, partially expected yet still totally shocking. Theodore has andeocarcinoma, a very rare type of cancer and the vet did not remove all of it when he took the tumor and gall bladder out.

Theodore went severely downhill this weekend and could barely move this morning when I found him hiding behind the toilet in the bathroom. His temp was below 98 degrees, his eyes were sunken in the back of his head, and he couldn’t walk on his own he was so weak.

The Dr said he could try a feeding tube and steroids but with the metastisizing cancer cells, there was only a 20 percent chance Theodore would make it.

So – around 3:20 p.m. this afternoon Theodore was humanely euthanized and will be FOREVER LOVED, MISSED, and HONORED by his mother and all who knew him.

There was no cat quite like Theodore. He enjoyed the outdoors so much, running freely through the woods in the wind, chasing chipmunks, playing on his cat post at home, and snuggling at night time with whoever had open arms. He also knew how to open the crunchie cabinet and did so quite frequently. He slept by my side every minute when I was sick over the last 3 months, never leaving me alone…

Please do say a prayer for him and me, his mom, as I am a total wreck. Theodore was with me through some of the worst parts of the last 11 years of my life (as well as the good parts). I have never been bestowed such a loving and joyful gift as him and he will never be forgotten.

I love you Theodore, and I can’t wait to see you again someday.

Love, Mom

  8. Oh, dear, that is such sad news. We are all so very sorry for your loss. You are blessed to have had him so long, but that does not make his passing any easier to bear.
Know that he appreciated your help in easing his pain and suffering to cross the bridge. There are thousands of kitty friends and chipmunks to chase on the other side, and you will meet him again.
All the best wishes to you.

  9. Milo and Alfie’s mom speaks:

I am so very sorry for the loss of your beloved Theodore. I know just how acute and painful such a loss is (my own beloved Henry was helped to the bridge, 1985 ~ 2004).
I don’t know you, and didn’t know Theodore ~ but from reading your post I do know what a special bond you two had. The loss of such an important part of your life is going to be painful. I still cry over Henry and he has been gone for approaching 6 years. The pain never goes ~ you just learn to handle it.
The thing is, the more we love the more we grieve. So you are bound to hurt.
Blessings to you ~ and comfort yourself with the fact that you and Theodore were so lucky to have found each other ~ and no one can take those years or that love away. The love you two shared will remain in your heart for ever.

  29. Lisa Nelson says:

I’m so sorry to hear of your loss and understand what you’re going thru. I lost two of my best girlfriends in the last three years about a year apart. Both had chronic renal failure and were on meds and daily sub-q IV but their hearts are eventually what gave out. They were stable with the kidney disease so it was a shock when they went into heart failure and I had to make that very difficult decision. Since these two kitties owned me for over 18 years, we went thru a lot of major life changes together which makes the parting harder still. Not only was I saying farewell to a dear family member each time, I was saying farewell to a part of my life in a sense. My 6 rescue kitties, Calvin, Hobbes, Gracie, Sammie, Bella and Jake all send warm hugs your way. We’ll say a little prayer for Theodore but something tells me he’s doing just fine. Lisa

  30. We didn’t know Theodore but heard about your loss at The Creek Cats and wanted to come tell you how sorry we are. We know how tough it is to lose a beloved kitty (we just lost our Callie a week before Christmas, as well as others in the past), and we’re sending you purrrrrrrrrrs to help you feel a little better.

    Purrs and hugs,

  31. We is sorry to hear that Theodore hadta go to tha Rainbow Bridge. We is sending yoo lotsa purrs for yore sads.

  32. brandi says:

Ooh, I will miss Theodore very much. But now he is not sick anymore and playing with all the kitties that are over the Rainbow Bridge. You will see him again, someday. I hope he finds those who went before me. Sasha was such a lap cat and Suki was our sweetiest cat ever. I hope they meet. Theodore has a lot of friends to make now. And he is waiting for you, never fear. You did a kind and wonderful thing, ending his suffering here on earth, and he will be forever in your heart as you are in his.

  33. Marlene & Sable says:

I didn’t know about Theodore until I read the Creek Cats blog. Sable & I send along our sincerest sympathies. I’m sure Theodore is running around in the woods & making Friends. Its my guess that he was very social. It broke my heart when I read he had passed. Just over a year ago we lost our beautiful Bombay Boo. She had been sick for a few days, but we thought she just had virus. So I do
know what it feels like to lose a cherished pet. We never forget them, but eventually the pain eases. Always remember the good times you shared with Theodore. It does help. May you start to feel better & I will say a prayer for both you & Theodore. Sable just walked over the keyboard so she wanted to put in her two cents.

  34. We’re so sorry.

Lots of purrs and R.I.P. Theodor!

  35. Tanya says:

I am so sorry for your loss. I just recently lost a very sweet special cat too and know the pain you are feeling. My heart goes out to you.
